top 5 tuesday – intimidating books

vorlage_top5_tuesday

happy day my lovely bookoholics! ❤ i’m sorry, if i haven’t been on your blogs and commenting lately, but my life is chaos right now hahaha. it’s positive chaos though, i think. 😀 i just don’t know where time is going and in the evenings i just want to close my eyes. i promise i’ll be better soon! but now, it’s time for another top 5 tuesday. it was created by shanah over at Bionic Book Worm. please go and check out her blog, because she’s awesome!

this week’s topic is: top 5 rewind – top 5 intimidating books. i love this topic, because like everybody else, i have intimidating books on my tbr. last year i probably would have put “harry potter and the sorcerer’s stone” on there, but i have read it and it was great. so that one’s off my list. but there are other books, that i am still afraid to read. it’s either the size or i’m just scared i won’t like them. so let’s get to my list, shall we?

1.) “the final empire” by brandon sanderson

thefinalempire

i really, really, really want to give the “mistborn” series by brandon sanderson a try this year. just to see, if i like it or not. the thing is, that many people say, they love this series so much. but my best book buddy wasn’t that happy with it and i trust her judgement. so now i really don’t know, where i will stand. because the people i hear raving about that book, necessarily don’t have the same taste in books than me, so i am afraid to start the series. but i will do it, just to see, who’s right, haha 😀

2.) “bleak house” by charles dickens

bleakhouse

sooo, i have this project this year. to read at least five charles dickens books. my goal is to read “bleak house” as well. but, the thing is, that this is suuuuuuch a huge book, which intimidates me very, very much! 😀 i know, i will love the writing, but i am afraid, that the story won’t be for me. that would be so bad, because i don’t want to force myself to go through it. i guess, i’ll just have to see. one good thing though, a lot of people love “bleak house”, so i am hoping to love it too. but yes, i am scared 😀

3.) “the raven cycle” by maggie stiefvater

ravenboys

i really want to give “the raven cycle” a try. probably not this year, but you never know right? i don’t read a lot of paranormal books, but i have heard a lot of good things. i also heard that it’s very character driven and i am very much for plot driven books. it’s always so hard with series. if you love it, there are more books. if you hate it, then there are less books to read, which can be good too. i am not sure about this, but i guess we’ll have to see, if this series is for me. i really wish, that it is.

4.) “blonde” by joyce carol oates

blonde

i have never read anything by joyce carol oates before, but i heard her writing is supposed to be very good and her stories too. “blonde” caught my interest in particular, because it’s about marilyn monroe, who i was always fascinated with and it would be great to read a story about her. but again, this book is huge and that’s what kept me from reading it before.

5.) “bird box” by josh malerman

birdbox

last week i told you a story about me being a chicken after reading “the shining” by stephen king. yes, i am scared very easily. 😀 horror is not my thing at all. but the synopsis of ” bird box” just sounds so, so, soooooo good. i want to read that book so badly. but i know that i will be scared. i just know it. maybe i should read it while on vacation at my parents house, then there will be people who can comfort me 😀

  1. All on my list! I’ve heard so many good things about the Mistborn series. Looking forward to it myself. I also want to read Great Expectations. Great picks, Alex! Take care. 💗

  2. I’m still sticking to “The Raven Cycle is weird.” but that’s because I simply had so much trouble making up my mind about it. I liked it, but didn’t love it? People keep telling me I have to reread it and THEN I’ll fall in love with those books but.. I don’t know. I’ll reread them [since a whole bunch of people said I should] but once I notice they aren’t my cup of tea after all.. No more, haha.
I don’t mind character-driven books once in a while though, so that can’t be it. I guess I just don’t see what all the hype is about? It’s weirddd.

Another intimidating read: IT by Stephen King. I’m soooooo not ready for that one. Nope. Never will be, probably.

  3. It makes me so happy to see so many participants with Brandon Sanderson on their list – it lets me know that I’m not the only one intimidated by this series! I’m going to read it soon though…. I’m determined!
Thanks so much for participating – added you to the list 🙂

  5. My life has been chaos too, I haven’t had time to even write blog posts! Those books certainly do sound intimidating, I find long books intimidating to read too because I don’t want them to take a whole month!

  6. The Raven Cycle is soooo intimidating to me too! I feel like everyone loves it but they also say it’s one of those books that takes a while to get into it. So basically, it’s intimidation all around 😛

  7. I love The Raven Cycle, but I definitely think that if you’re into more plot driven books than character it’d be best not to get your expectations too high! But I can see how they can be intimidating, with all the praise that surrounds them.
