it’s tuesday and i am again participating in the “top ten tuesday”, which is a weekly challenge hosted by the broke and the bookish. this weeks topic is:
Top Ten Books I’m Thankful For (Happy Thanksgiving week in the USA!)
hello my lovely bookoholics ❤ it’s tuesday and i am in bed. on sunday i woke up in the middle of the night and got this awful ear pain. i couldn’t lie down anymore because it got worse then. so i was up, walking around the apartment. i went to the doctor and it turned out i got an ear infection. i lost some of my hearing and she said, that the pain should be gone soon, but it could take weeks until i get my hearing back. and she said, that it’s possible that i will get a cold on top. yay me! the ear drops for my ear really help, but it’s ringing all the time and it’s weird not to hear normal. and i feel the cold coming. keep your fingers crossed, so it won’t break out. i don’t want to be sick. right now, i feel slightly better, but it’s hard to concentrate with pain. that’s why i am not reading that much. i am resting, as you should when you are sick. but since it’s thanksgiving, i wanted to give my thanks. i am very thankful for a lot of things this year, but let’s concentrate on the books, shall we? i’m just gonna include books, that i have read this year and that made me happy, sad or had an emotional impact on me or that just are part of something bigger for me. 🙂
“books i am thankful for in 2017”
1.) “the hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy” by douglas adams & “dark matter” by blake crouch
since i have read “the martian”, sci-fi has become one of my favorite genres. i have read “the hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy” on the 1st of january and it was such a great and funny read. i knew, why i loved sci-fi and this book only contributed to my love. i still think about marvin and this books is just amazing. i can recommend it to anyone! “dark matter” on the other hand just blew my mind! the story about the parallel universes was amazing and it was just my thinking on paper. this was amazing. both these books showed my, that sci-fi is an amazing genre and it will always be one of my favorites.
2.) “hit me right in the heart”-books
i need to list all of these three books, because i can’t choose at all. “starfish” by akemi dawn bowman, “words in deep blue” by cath crowley and “autoboyography” by christina lauren were books, that hit me hard. they were very emotional, but i loved them so, so, so much. i love my emotional reads, but books, that keep me thinking about them are just the best. i loved everything about these books. plot, characters, writing, emotional feelings. everything was perfect and i am so thankful that i got to experience this.
3.) “simon vs. the homo sapiens agenda” by becky albertalli
this was one of the first audiobooks that i have read this year. i never thought, that i would become such a fan of audiobooks, but after listening to this, i was blown away. it’s a wonderful story, that made my cry, while listening to it. i had so many emotions during this “listen” and i am so thankful that it showed me, that audiobooks can have that effect on me.
4.) “kids of appetite” by david arnold
wouldn’t be a 2017 list, if it didn’t include “kids of appetite” by david arnold. i cried almost throughout this whole book. the story touched me so deeply. the characers touched me so deeply. the writing was phenomenal and oh all those quotes! ❤ it will always have a special place in my heart. especially since it connects me with my best friend.
5.) the “shades of magic” & “monsters of verity” series by v.e. schwab
i am very thankful for the “shades of magic” and “monsters of verity” series by v.e. schwab, because these books made me fall in love with her writing, with her characters, with her stories. i love her books and i became a huge fan this year. i had a little adventure getting her signature in “this savage song” and now i own a signed copy of the “a darker shade of magic” collector’s edition. i also bought all three hardbacks when i was in los angeles this year. so i have a lot of memories of my bookish adventures with her and i will always cherish them.
6.) jane austen’s novels
i started my jane austen project this year and i am so glad that i did. i really like these classics. currently i am reading the last novel “emma” and i like it but i feel, that “persuasion” will stay my favorite. i’m glad and thankful for this project, because it brought me closer to classics.
7.) “the outsiders” by s.e. hinton
i’m very thankful for “the outsiders” because it touched me very, very deeply. i was shocked and angry but most of all i was stunned, that i build up this connection to these characters, considering this book is so small. and i am thankful, that the movie adaption was done so well, because sometimes movie adaptions just suck. this one proved, that there are good ones out there.
8.) “a man called ove” by fredrick backman
ove, my dear ove. how have you made me cry. i think this book made me cry the most this year. i sobbed constantly. it touched me so very deeply and made me so emotional, that it is hard, to ever forget. but i am thankful for that, because it reminds me, that books just stay with you for a very long time! and i have a feeling, that this will become one of my favorite authors of all time.
9.) “the nevernight chronicle” by jay kristoff
i am very thankful for these two books, especially for “nevernight”. i was about to dnf it but i kept going and now this is one of my favorite series so far. it showed me, that sometimes it’s worth not to give up so easily! i can’t wait to get my hands on the last book and see how it all ends. i became a huge fan of jay kristoff. he even responded to my tweet, which i was so happy about. it’s these little things, that make you happy!
10.) “watching glass shatter” by james j. cudney
yes jay, you need to be on this list. i loved “watching glass shatter” as you can read in my review. there is still the poll up, so go and vote. but as my review shows, there is nothing bad i can say about this book. and i am so thankful for it, because it brought the blogging community closer. jay did such a wonderful job connecting all people and i got to know new bloggers and could talk about this amazing debut novel. everything this book did in the past weeks, was an amazing experience to me. it was my first blog tour. i felt important. i was happy, that someone trusted me so much to let my be part of it. i had so much fun. i am so happy about everything. and the reading of “watching glass shatter” was also great. it made me very emotional, because it’s a fantastic family drama, that is beautifully written. i will always be thankful for this book.
so, as you can see, i can’t possibly just pick ten books. no way. every book is different and special and has their own story. that’s why i needed to pick more and explain the effect on me. i’m thankful for books in general, because they made my life just great this year. and i can’t wait for all the new experiences i am about to have. happy thanksgiving to everybody! 🙂
