1.) wuthering heights

Wuthering Heightstitle: wuthering heights
author: emily bronte
rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

my review:
i am still deciding on my thoughts for this one. it was a buddy read for me and i have to say, that i didn’t expect the second part of this book. i always thought, that it’s a whole different story, but i was pleasantly surprised. i really enjoyed this classic. 🙂

2.) one of us is lying

oneofusislying

title: one of us is lying
author: karen m. mcmanus
rating: ⭐⭐⭐.75

my review:
i really enjoyed it. it was a thrilling read, which was written very well. i kept turning the pages, because i had no idea, who is who and what the hell is happening. mystery wise this book did everything right. also the characters are very lovable. read my full review here. warning: there are spoilers ahead!

3.) eliza and her monsters

elizaandhermonsterstitle: eliza and her monsters
author: francesca zappia
rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

my review:
i am a huge fan of “eliza and her monsters” and all the characters in it. also the story was beautiful and it hit right home. there was just one thing, that reminded me too much of “the fault in our stars” by john green, which is why i can’t give it a full five stars. read my full review here

4.) summer days & summer nights

summerdaysandsummernightstitle: summer days & summer nights
author: edited by stephanie perkins
rating: ⭐⭐⭐.5

my review:
in the end, i was disappointed in this anthology. i mean, i love love stories. they are my favorite. yes, disney shaped me that way. 😀 so i thought, that these stories would be perfect for the summer but in the end there were just a few that i really loved. such a shame, because i expected so much more!

5.) jane steele

janesteeletitle: jane steele
author: lindsay faye
rating: ⭐⭐.5

my review:
what you have to know about me. i love “jane eyre” by charlotte bronte. it’s my favorite classic so far. i also love thrillers or mysteries. that’s why i thought, this book would be perfect for me. a mystery based on jane eyre. but this was just such a let down. i couldn’t connect with the characters and i didn’t like the development of the story and it was just nothing for me. the plot did not surprise me and honestly, i was just bored. maybe i shouldn’t have read this as an audiobook…

6.) because you love to hate me

becauseyoulovetohatemetitle: because you love to hate me
author: edited by ameriie
rating: ⭐⭐⭐.5

my review:
another anthology i was disappointed in. i was looking forward to this so so soooo much. some of my favorite booktubers paired with authors. this book promised so much but i didn’t get what i expected. i loved way to less stories and some of them really weren’t good. i thought this would blow me away, but i guess i am just not the person for anthologies.

7.) alice’s adventures in wonderland

alice

title: alice’s adventures in wonderland
author: lewis carroll
review: ⭐⭐⭐.5

my review:
i finally managed to read this children’s classic and i have to say, that it was just ok. it was a cute story, which brought me to a really cool world with awesome characters. but i didn’t like alice and so the story wasn’t that good for me as expected. still, the mad hatter and the cheshire cat are awesome! 😀 i loved these. i am happy i finally read this book, but it won’t become one of my favorites.

8.) a monster calls

monstercalls

title: a monster calls
author: patrick ness
review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

my review:
can i give this book more than five stars? please? this was just fantastic. i read the illustrated edition, which was beautiful ❤ i totally fell in love with the story and the writing. conor immediately earned a place in my heart and i cried my eyes out throughout this book. it broke me, i was a mess in the end. but it was so so so so good!!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

9.) of mice and men

ofmiceandmen

title: of mice and men
author: john steinbeck
review: ⭐⭐⭐.5

my review:
this is a short book, but john steinbeck manages within a couple of pages to create an atmosphere, which is perfect. i could totally imagine myself back in that time, because it was so well done. i also was a huge fan of the complexity of lennie. such a good character. the only thing, that i didn’t like was the ending. i hated it honestly. i still can’t understand it and i wish, the author would have gone a different way…

10.) the long ride home

thelongridehome

title: the long ride home
author: tawni waters
review:⭐⭐⭐⭐

my review:
i received this book as an arc from the publisher via netgalley and i am so happy about that, because this book was great. i loved the characters and the story. it was an emotional rollercoaster and it just spoke the truth. i felt as if the story was a real story, and that made me like it so much more. you can read my full review here

11.) sense & sensibility

SenseAndSensibility

title: sense & sensibility
author: jane austen
review: ⭐⭐⭐.5

my review:
this was my 5th jane austen novel. i almost made it through her books which i am very happy about. this one was okay, but nothing special. i really loved the character of elinor, she was just badass in my opinion. marianne on the other hand was so annoying to me. i couldn’t read any more about her. i will do a review post about all austen novels, once i finish “emma”. then you can read all my thoughts about her books.

so, that’s it guys. that’s my july wrap up. i am very proud of myself, because i was gone half of july and also in a big reading slump. but this is finally over and i am looking forward to all the wonderful books in august. 🙂

how has your july been? did you read everything you wanted to? let me know! 🙂

      1. I’ve had One of Us is Lying on my radar for a while and A Monster Calls has been on my TBR since foreverrr. I’ve also been told to read Sense and Sensibility many times by various people, so I should give that a stab at some point too!

      2. one of us is lying is ok, but you don’t have to read that. a monster calls on the other hand – read that! definitely 😂
have you read any jane austen novels? i am a big fan of persuasion and northanger abbey! i’d start with those 🤗

  1. Those look like some good books!! I’ve been hearing mixed reviews about One Of Us Is Lying (and also the ending got kind of spoiled for me….) so I’ve been putting that one off. I really want to read A Monster Calls now! It sounds so good! I need to get a copy! (Also, is that the one they made into a movie? Or am I thinking of something else?)

    1. if you got spoiled, it doesn’t make a lot of sense unfortunately 😔
as for “a monster calls”: read it! it is soooooo good and heartbreaking! 😭 and yes, it was turned into a movie and was in cinema at the beginning of the year i think!

  2. So many amazing books! Wuthering Heights is actually my favorite classic besides P&P and so it makes me so happy that you enjoyed it; I know that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. And One of Us is lying and Eliza and Her Monsters sound like fantastic reads. I can’t wait to get started on them one day. Also, it’s disappointing to her that Because You Love to Hate Me didn’t really live up to the hype. You’re not the first person who has the same opinion of it. I really want to read it, but I might go in with lower expectations just to be safe haha. Glad you had such a successful month of reading. Hope August is just as amazing for you! 😀

    1. thank you so much!! 🤗
yes, wuthering heights was great, but jane eyre was better for me when i compare the brontes 😅
you definitely need to read eliza and her monsters! it is so so so so good! ❤️
and yes, please lower your expectations for because you love to hate me. it think it’s always a risk with anthologies… 😕

      1. I feel like if you’re a Jane Eyre fan, you won’t be much a fan of Wuthering Heights. But I love to see that you enjoyed both! 😀
Agreed. Anthologies can definitely be a hit or miss. I rarely read them so we’ll see what happens haha
