top 5 wednesday is a weekly challenge where you can pick your top 5 for the topic of the week. you can find more information about it on goodreads.
this weeks topic is: books without romance. i read a lot of thrillers, which don’t have a lot of romance aspects in them, but somehow my list turned out thriller-free 😀
1.) “the martian” by andy weir
i think this book will forever be one of my favorite sci-fi books of all time. i love mark watney. it just is how it is. that guy is so perfect, funny, smart, hilarious, brave and he gives me hope. where is this man? bring him to me, because it looks like he hasn’t a girlfriend! 😀 😀 😀 that’s also the part that made me like this book so much. no romance. no love feelings. just mark and mars. lovett! ❤
2.) “the book thief” by markus zusak
this book made me cry so much. i couldn’t stop. i was sobbing all the time. it is so so so good. everyone who knows the story, knows, that it’s not a book about romance. it’s about the war and the brutal events that happened. you will cry a lot. but it is so beautifully written and the characters are amazing, so that it’s worth to read and cry. ;-(
3.) “this savage song” by victoria schwab
i was hesitant about reading this book, because fantasy isn’t really my genre. i just recently discovered it for me. but this book was just fantastic. i love victoria or v.e. schwabs writing style and she became one of my favorite authors this year. this book has amazing characters, a very interesting story that makes you fall in love with the characters and the best part is, there is no romance involved. i’ve read a lot ya-books in the last year and it was really refreshing, not to have a romance (although i am a sucker for a good love story. yes, yes i am 😀 ) but this book does not need a love story. it is perfect as it is. ❤
4.) “the hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy” by douglas adams
another sci-fi book. there seems to be a pattern 😀
“the hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy” was my first book in 2017. i always wanted to read it and it was a great start into the year. it was sooo funny, that i had to laugh all the time. it also has one of the greatest characters ever: a depressed robot. come on people! 😀 here’s my favorite scene with marvin 😀 😀 😀
marvin: that ship hated me.
ford: ship? what happened to it? do you know?
marvin: it hated me because i talked to it.
ford: you talked to it? what do you mean you talked to it?
marvin: simple. i got very bored and depressed, so i went and plugged myself into its external computer feed. i talked to the computer at great length and explained my view of the universe to it.
ford: and what happened?
marvin: it committed suicide.
5.) “wonder” by r.j. palacio
ok, this is a middle grade book, but i still love it. august is such a great character and his story is so heart warming and beautiful. i cried, i laughed and went through an emotional rollercoaster. just read it and follow august. you will love it! ❤ ❤ ❤
